RIPTIDE

Riptide is a spaceship combat game where you take the role as the captain of Operation Riptide. The goal of the game is to complete the mission objective while dogfighting other spaceships. Customize your arsenal, upgrade your ship, and join the rebellion!!

This game was created as our capstone project in Champlain College. Our team of 17 developers consisted of 4 programmers, 5 artists, 5 designers, 2 producers, and 1 sound designer. I joined the team halfway through development as an onboarded programmer.

  • Before I was onboarded, the player ship’s turning and movement was linear, so I worked on ship acceleration systems for thrust and turning! To make the ship feel weighty was tricky, since the game takes place in space (where weight isn’t taken into account), so it was a delicate balance.

  • I worked on giving the game controller support. Unfortunately, while controls work fully during battle for gamepads, they were never finished for the final game, so they’re currently disabled.

  • I added a counter to the amount of targets destroyed in every win screen.
