FIREBRAND

FIREBRAND is a puzzle platforming game where the main mechanic revolves around switching between your backup equipment, oil and bombs, to interact with the environment by slashing equipment abilities with your fire sword. The goal of the game is to make it to the end to return the sun back to this dark world.

This game was created as part of the Brackeys Game Jam 2021.1. Our team of 2 developers consisted of 2 programmers. We had a week to create this game, and it ranked #16 on the fun factor, a voted on category!

work done on project /

  • For gameplay systems, I worked on the equipment switch mechanic allowing the player to switch between the throwable oil and bombs.

  • I created all of the pixel art seen in the project. The characters, the parallax environment, the items, the puzzles, the enemies… It would definitely be my biggest contribution in the project alongside the weapon switching.

  • I worked on the enemy AI; walking patterns, attacking patterns, and recognizing + chasing the player. It’s not the fanciest in the world but it works!

  • I made the majority of the sound effects featured in the game. Having a week to do the game jam let me experiment with sound effects and I learned a lot.
