SUPERCOOL ACTION FISHING

SUPERCOOL ACTION FISHING is a reverse fishing runner game where you play AS the fish. The goal is to make it to the end of the river while scoring as many points as possible. Just make sure you avoid by the fishhooks, crawfish, and herons!

This game was created as part of the GMTK Game Jam 2023. Our team of 3 developers consisted of 2 programmers and 1 artist. We only had 48 hours to fully create the game from scratch.

  • For gameplay systems, I worked on the swimming physics, player interaction mechanics such as the movement, parrying, biting, and sunfish throwing, and NPC interaction mechanics such as the fishhook grapple, the crawfish grapple, and the heron beak stab.

  • The bulk of the frontend systems I worked on had to do with character state machines; whether you’re grabbing another fish, being grabbed by a hook or crawfish, or performing an aerial trick out of the water, every individual state is tied back to the character state system.

  • I implemented the sunfish AI and enemy AI to react to the player’s own behaviors.

  • I tied our artist’s animations to their respective character states.

  • I made the majority of the sound effects featured in the game. I don’t usually do sound work but with constrained time I got to try.
